Performance & Core Web Vitals
A site that loads before they leave.
I get your Core Web Vitals into the green by fixing the site itself: images, fonts and scripts, rather than adding a caching plugin on top. Speed is one of the few changes that helps search ranking, conversion and hosting cost at once.
What’s included
What the work covers.
A plain list of what the project involves, so you can see where the time and money go.
Diagnosis from field data
Lab and field data together. Lab data shows what’s slow; field data shows what your visitors experience on their own devices.
Largest Contentful Paint
The hero element identified, prioritised, sized correctly and never hidden behind an animation waiting to fade in.
Cumulative Layout Shift
Dimensions on every image, space reserved for anything injected late, and fonts that swap without moving the page.
Interaction to Next Paint
Long tasks split up, listeners made passive and work moved off the main thread, so taps respond straight away.
Asset pipeline
Modern formats, correct sizes, lazy loading below the fold and fonts that don’t block the first paint.
Checked on the live site
Re-measured once real traffic arrives, because staging numbers aren’t the ones Google uses.
Process
How a project runs.
Measure
A baseline from PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse and Chrome UX field data, mobile first.
Diagnose
What is causing each metric to fail. Usually it comes down to three or four causes.
Fix
Highest impact first. Most of the gain typically comes from images, fonts and blocking scripts.
Verify
Re-measure, hand over the numbers and note what will slow the site down again if content is added carelessly.
The difference
The usual approach, and mine.
| The usual | This way | |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Cache the slow page | Make the page not slow |
| Images | Compressed in place | Right size, right format |
| Fonts | Left as-is | Subset, preloaded, swapped |
| Scripts | Minified | Removed or deferred |
| Result | Lab score moves | Field data moves |
Questions
What clients ask before they hire me.
No, and nobody else can either. The score depends on the device, the network and the third-party scripts you need. What I can commit to is passing Core Web Vitals and a measurable, documented improvement.
It affects how many people stay long enough to buy, and it’s a confirmed ranking signal. It’s not the only thing that matters, but it’s one of the few you fully control.
No. Builders add weight, but most of the damage comes from images, fonts and plugins. A builder site can pass Core Web Vitals when it’s built with restraint, and this one does.
I measure what each one costs and show you the trade-off. Some can be deferred or self-hosted, some are worth their cost, and some turn out to be forgotten and can simply go.
The build will. What tends to undo them is content added later, like a 4 MB image dropped into a page. The handover covers exactly that.
